2020 Prescient Merlot Report
The fourth annual Prescient Merlot Report was released last week. This report is convened by Winemag.co.za, backed by the official producer body Hallo Merlot and sponsored by multinational financial services company Prescient.
This year's Top 10 list includes some of my favourite Merlots. 🍷
The Top 10 list is as follows:
- Boschendal 1685 2017
- De Grendel 2017
- Eagles’ Nest 2015
- Glenelly Glass Collection 2018
- Le Bonheur The Manor Meander 2018
- Nitida 2018
- Remhoogte Aspect 2016
- Shannon Vineyards Mount Bullet 2017
- Vergelegen Reserve 2015
- Vergelegen The Mistake 2015
Wines entered into the Merlot category are blind tasted and rated based on the 100-point quality scale. The Top 10 wines in the category's precise scores are only revealed at a gala dinner where the individual best wine per category will receive an award. The Best of Category wines will subsequently be shown at tastings in both Johannesburg and London.
Why not start ordering these wines online right now? Or make a list of these and buy a couple of bottles as soon as the (second) ban on alcohol is lifted in South Africa.
