Merlot

Merlot is a French, black grape variety that can produce velvety full-bodied wines as well as light and fruity wines. The wines are notable for their pronounced black fruit and herbaceous flavours. Generally speaking the dominant flavour characteristics of Merlot are raspberry, bell pepper, black cherry, plum, chocolate, cedar and spices. However, black fruits and vanilla are typically more prominent in wines from warmer regions such as South Africa.
